Waterproofing design – getting it right from the start!

Today, insurance providers, the BSI, manufacturers and specifiers are working together to drive up standards across the UK waterproofing industry.

According to the NHBC, claims related to waterproofing below ground between 2005 and 2013 cost them in the region of:

21,000,000 in claims
890 homes effected

Their subsequent campaign to minimise system failure included the enhancement of their ‘Waterproofing of basements and other below ground structures’ standard, plus the new requirement that waterproofing systems should be designed by a waterproofing design specialist.

BS 8102 (2009), the current Code of Practice for the waterproofing of structures below ground, also recommends that a waterproofing design team includes a waterproofing specialist.
